Who runs this website?

SimpleSci is operated by SimpleSci and is intended for families and educators in the United States. For privacy questions, access or deletion requests, contact Contact details are awaiting confirmation from the site operator..

Your lesson-event tracking choice

SimpleSci currently measures lesson use by default to help us improve the site. You can switch these optional event submissions off in this browser. All lessons, quizzes, games, and saved upgrades remain available.

Loading your browser’s preference…

We also switch lesson-event tracking off when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Your choice is stored on this device. It does not delete submissions already received or stop the hosting requests needed to deliver the site.

What is collected?

ActivityInformation and purpose
Using lessons and gamesWhen event tracking is on: the page and activity, simulation milestones, quiz score and answered count, game result, active visible time with a 60-second inactivity limit, safe error descriptions, browser user-agent information (limited to 512 characters with obvious sensitive strings removed), browser/device category, viewport size, test/bot classification and reason, timestamp, referrer website origin, original and current filtered campaign labels, and randomly generated visitor, session, page, and event identifiers. These help us understand which lessons work and where visitors stop. We do not include the actual quiz answers or form messages in lesson-event records.
Saved progressLesson completions, latest and best quiz scores, the latest quiz completion date, first lesson visit dates, challenge badges, and earned game upgrades are stored in this browser. These saved results do not sync to other devices; clearing site data removes them. Quiz answers and adventure access reset when returning to a lesson. A student account is not needed.
New-lesson emailsAn adult can submit an email address and an affirmative signup choice. These requests are separate from lesson analytics. Use email preferences to request removal.
Lesson suggestionsThe topic suggestion entered into the form. An adult should send suggestions on a child’s behalf and omit names, email addresses, locations, or other personal details.
HostingNetlify hosts the site and handles submissions. Serving and protecting the site involves technical request data such as IP addresses and browser information. Hosting-level traffic reports are separate from the optional lesson-event tracker.

Random identifiers can still be personal data. We describe lesson events as pseudonymous, rather than promising that they are completely anonymous.

How information is used and shared

Lesson events are used to operate, evaluate, and improve SimpleSci. They are not sent to Meta or other advertising networks by this website. This version does not include a Meta Pixel, Google Analytics tag, or cross-site advertising tracker. Campaign labels help identify how visitors arrived; they do not turn student activity into advertising audiences.

Netlify processes hosting and form data as our service provider. People managing SimpleSci may review or export submissions for these purposes. Netlify’s privacy policy describes its practices. Information may be handled outside your country.

Cookies and browser storage

The site’s own scripts do not set browser cookies. They use local storage for saved learning progress, your privacy choice, and—while tracking is on—a visitor identifier and first-source campaign information. Session storage holds a session identifier, current campaign attribution, and the distinct lessons opened during that session. It also holds up to 100 pending event records in the current tab so they can wait through short offline periods or server rate limits. These records expire after 30 minutes; closing the tab can discard them. Testers can explicitly turn internal-QA mode on or off; that flag persists in local storage until cleared. It does not identify a person or grant access. Browser storage is still a storage technology, even when no cookie is used.

Turning event tracking off clears this tracker’s visitor/session identifiers, campaign storage, and pending event records and stops future event submissions. It does not erase badges or game upgrades. You can clear all site data through your browser, but doing so also removes locally saved learning progress. A privacy preference here is not a verified parental-consent process.

Children and adult submissions

The lessons are designed for children ages 5–12 and their families. Children should explore without submitting personal information. Parents and teachers should handle email signups and lesson suggestions. We do not ask for a child’s name, birth date, school, address, photo, or voice recording to use a lesson.

If a child’s personal information is submitted by mistake, an adult can contact us to request its removal. Do not send additional sensitive information when making the request.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Browser-stored progress remains until it is reset or cleared. Tracking identifiers and first-source information remain until event tracking is switched off or browser storage is cleared; session storage normally ends with the browser session. Your privacy choice remains until changed or browser storage is cleared.

Form submissions and lesson-event records sent to Netlify are stored separately from your browser. Switching tracking off cannot delete those records or earlier exports. Contact us to request access or deletion; we may need enough information to locate the relevant record and verify an adult’s request. We cannot reliably identify every lesson event from an email address because the tracker does not collect email addresses.

Operator review required: server-side retention periods and the deletion schedule must be confirmed before this policy is published. This website package cannot enforce deletion of Netlify records or exported copies.

Proposed retention plan — not yet active

The operator has not decided the retention schedule. This proposal is for review; it does not describe an automatic deletion system already in place.

Deletion routines, handling of exports and backups, hosting-provider retention, and the adult request process must be confirmed before this proposal becomes the published policy.
